This qualification is suitable for people who coordinate and maintain the Work Health and Safety (WHS) program in an organisation. It reflects the role of practitioners who apply a substantial knowledge base and well-developed skills in a wide variety of WHS contexts.

Successfully completing this program will provide you with technical skills that can be applied to many roles in management and leadership including projects and risk management skills.

This course is made up of 10 Units being five core and five elective units.

  • BSBWHS516 Contribute to developing, implementing and maintaining an organisation's WHS management system

  • BSBWHS519 Lead the development and use of WHS risk management

  • BSBWHS512 Contribute to managing work-related psychological health and safety 

  • BSBWHS514 Manage WHS compliance of contractors

This course is ideal for people who already co-ordinate and maintain or have ultimate accountability for the Work Health & Safety Program in an organisation across a wide range of sectors.


They will be WHS professionals who use a substantial knowledge base and well developed skills in a wide variety of WHS contexts.

  • Face to Face – Regular scheduled training sessions facilitated by highly qualified, industry professional trainer covering one or two units per session and assessments.

  • Intensive Workshop – A number of intensive (one or two day) workshop sessions in which the entire group gathers to work through the course together. This option requires work in your own time also.

  • Blended – This option may suit individuals who can attend some but not all of the sessions described above and are happy to do some of the course work in their own time.

We strongly believe that everyone has a preferred learning style and we will flexibly adapt the course to suit your individual needs. 



Applicants are only eligible to enrol into the BSB51319 Diploma of Work Health and Safety if they hold the core units of BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent competencies (ie predecessors of these units mapped as equivalent): 

  • BSBWHS412 Assist with workplace compliance with WHS laws 

  • BSBWHS413 Contribute to implementation and maintenance of WHS consultation and participation processes 

  • BSBWHS414 Contribute to WHS risk management 

  • BSBWHS415 Contribute to implementing WHS management systems 

  • BSBWHS416 Contribute to workplace incident response 

To gain entry into the BSB51319 Diploma of Work Health and Safety, candidates require to demonstrate an appropriate level of language, literacy and numeracy skills to undertake this qualification; this includes: 

  • The ability to read, write and interpret a range of documentation;

  • Computer literacy to research the internet, send/receive email and produce word-processed documents.

Applicants will be advised before enrolment that there will be an assessment of their Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) skills. The purpose of the LLN online test is to ensure that participants have the LLN skills needed to undertake their course. It will also show how The Change Network can assist participants in any areas where they may need help while studying with us. 

Should any LLN needs be identified at the time of enrolment, The Change Network will make the necessary efforts to ensure that the participant is given every opportunity to achieve a successful outcome. 

Where it isn't possible to meet the applicant's LLN needs, they will not be allowed to start a course until the necessary LLN skills are acquired.
